Prophet Al-Khidr is the righteous and mysterious servant of God whom Prophet Moses was commanded to follow and learn from, as recounted in Surah al-Kahf. He is named Al-Khidr (the Green One) because, as the Prophet Muhammad explained, whenever he sat on dry white ground, it would immediately turn green and lush with vegetation behind him. His shrine in Mahis, Balqa, is a site of historic prayer and blessing.
