Companion Al-Harith bin Umayr al-Azdi was the official envoy sent by the Prophet Muhammad to the King of Busra with a letter of invitation to Islam. He was intercepted and executed by Shurahbil bin Amr al-Ghassani, the Byzantine vassal governor, at Mu'tah. He was the only messenger of the Prophet to be killed, an act which directly caused the Battle of Mu'tah in 8 AH. He is buried in Basira, Tafilah.
