Companion Amir bin Abi Waqqas was the maternal cousin of the Prophet Muhammad and the brother of the famous commander Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas. He was an early convert who migrated to Abyssinia and later participated in the conquest of Syria, where he eventually died during the caliphate of Omar. His tomb is located in Ghor al-Shamali, Irbid.
