The Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al-Maghtas) is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Wadi al-Kharrar, on the eastern bank of the Jordan River. According to Christian tradition and historical texts, this is where John the Baptist lived, preached, and baptized Jesus Christ when Jesus was thirty years old, marking the official beginning of his public ministry. Archaeologists discovered ancient churches, baptismal pools, and a monastery on the site.
